## 2025 Impact

Afresh's impact on food waste and CO2 emissions in 2025 alone is the equivalent of keeping 190 million bananas out of the trash or taking around 24,000 cars off the road for a year.

### Food waste is one of the biggest solvable problems on the planet

Globally, roughly one-third of all food produced goes unsold or uneaten — even as 2.3 billion people face food insecurity.

02

### It’s not just a humanitarian issue — it’s an environmental one

In the US, food is the largest category of material sent to landfills. Food waste accounts for:

- 8–10% of global greenhouse gas emissions
- 28% of the world’s agricultural land
- 25% of global freshwater use

03

### 70% of food waste comes from fresh departments

Waste happens at every stage — from farm to fridge. In grocery, most of it comes from produce, meat, seafood, deli, and bakery: the categories with the shortest shelf lives and most volatile demand. That’s why we started there.

## Make a difference with us

"We think about the food accessibility problem as an efficiency problem. If we can increase the efficiency of the supply chain, it will make it less costly for grocers to sell fresh and healthy food that nourishes people."
